Harvey, part 2

We are in the middle of an incredible natural disaster in Houston.

This photo shows a major intersection, close to my house... downtown Houston skyline is in the background.

At 4 am this morning I moved all my quilts to the 2nd floor....(in case the first floor floods).

Save the quilts!

So I am prepared. But, the devastation all around makes me speechless.

We are safe. But both Houston airports are closed till further notice. Both are under water.... so doubtful I will flying to Japan on Tuesday.  Hoping I might get out later. Lots of people have much bigger problems. My heart goes out to them.

  1. I wish you safety over the next few days. I have a brother who lives in the Heights section and is doing OK. I still worry. My brother in law is a doctor in Galveston and had to stay there. He's only lived there 2 years, so this is a new experience for him. The amount of water is just unimaginable. Take care.

    1. Kathryn: Thank you so much for your comments. Its so good to hear from folks out there! There is water everywhere... its just unbelievable.

It will take a long time to recover!

Hoping for the best for your family! Its still raining.

  2. I think I recognize the view. We are keeping an eye on things from a distance. Not much we can do but watch and pray. I've been through several hurricanes from Carla on but Harvey seems to be the worst. So many more days of storm and the aftermath takes months-years.
I'm so sorry you'll miss your flight and wish you'd been able to get out a bit sooner.

    1. Hi Ann. Yes, Carla was a big one. It was 1 year before I was born... but I have very vivid memories of when we moved and bought a home in La Porte and the family showed us the water mark from Carla - about 10 feet!

I have lived here all my life... there are no words to describe this!
Thanks for your nice note. I am still hopeful I can get to Japan very soon... maybe Wednesday!

      Take care, Teresa

  3. The airport pictures are amazing and I know you are disappointed that your plans made long ago are not going to happen as planned. Commend you on your attitude to go with the flow and not fuss about YOUR PLANS.

    1. Susie: This disaster is so surreal. Left me speechless...! Both airports are a lake right now, along with most of the city. AND its still raining!

Hoping things will let up and I can still get to Japan!

Thanks for taking time to leave a comment!

  4. Teresa, just heartsick for you. We have so many friends and family in Houston, and I'm dumbfounded at all the images of places that used to look so familiar. I hope you're able to get to Japan soon.

  5. Teresa you will be in my thoughts and prayers. We have family in the Houston area they are fine as of now. I heard that the water isn't suppose to crest until Wednesday or Thursday. May you all remain safe and dry.

    1. Hi Robyn: Its crazy - this storm. Watching it unfold on television really... and checking constantly with our family and friends. Our house is fine and we are so grateful. Most people are not so lucky. AND, its still raining!

Thank you for your thoughts! Take care, Teresa
